African Americans have created these foundations and used these words to catch up on the past when White people called us the N**** Word, made it illegal for us to be educated, didn't allow us to have our own TV shows, enslaved us for over 300 years, and reaped the fruits of our hard labor and suffering without lifting a finger except for using the the whip or lichen, and created textbooks warped to make us inferior, separated us from our family, killed millions of us without any regard to "humanity". So we have created Holidays, TV Shows, Racial slurs and Foundations as a Catch up mechanism to restore our status before the corruption of European Peoples. At least "white only" signs were honest and the perpetrator of racism was obvious. Today institutions/society says they are against racism and the promote equality. But the don't promote equality. black schools are typically poorer than white schools in the US, but instead of remedying this by financing them the equivalent to the top white schools, black schools that are below 'average' in terms of resources are raised to 'average' (while most white schools are above 'average') - how is that equality??
Everyone strives for the American dream (wealth, good job). Some can hope to acheive it through legitimate means such as working hard at school/university (most white people) but others don't have much hope of acheiving it (black people living in ghettos, for instance). These people are defeated, and lack hope - crime is much more prevalent in areas of high unemployment and poverty, because people are more angry and desperate (and they have little to lose!). Ghetto violence is an indirect result of white racism. Black people get taught, even today (subtely and not deliberately) that they are criminal, dangerous and worse than white people. White teachers often assume they will do worse at school, and treat them accordingly. No-one tells them they are less intelligent, but their actions say it, and students will learn to believe it - or at least, won't be given the same opportunities. In a shop, black teenage guys will be watched much more carefully than white people in case they 'steal' something... while white people pretty much never have to tolerate the same assumption, they are considered 'good' and 'trustworthy'.
If white Americans had WET etc, I don't think that would be racist. But do they need that? Black Americans (and hispanics and American Indians) are the 'odd-ones-out' almost everywhere. If we, as white people, had no choice but to go to a police station where all the officers were black to report a crime, or be treated in a hospital by staff who were all black, or be taught in school by only black teachers and be surrounded by black students - we'd feel very out of place, we would be afraid of being treated badly/differently, and we would be reluctant to go to these places. So minority ethnic groups need things/places that are 'black-only' or whatever - white people don't need that.

Mrs. J, if you don't hear those words used to describe white people very often, you have lived a sheltered life. I have lived in Cleveland Ohio for close to 10 years. I grew up in a school system that was 10% white, if that. Throughout those years I have heard those words countless times, but if a white kid were to say any slang term directed to anyone but a white kid, "it was on". Sure we had Martin Luther King day off too, but the point is that it is deeper than a day off of school. It is about the celebration of what a great man did for society, yet I don't hear anything about a Henry Ford day and he revolutionized our economy with the assembly line. Next, the I.R.S. being a white agency goes to show the horrible stereotypes that you have been fed, last time I checked they went after all races. Bungie jumping and white water rafting I have no clue on how you came up with those, last I checked they were available (and used) by all. President's Day I will give you for obvious reasons, but the day will come that we have a female and/or different race in office.
Amelia, your school info is wrong. In Cleveland Ohio there is a program called the Gifted and Talented program directed at all students who show promise. I attended the program (which again was approx. 10% white) and then went to a new High School (opened in 2002) called the Early College Program, it is callaborating with Cleveland State University and is very well funded compared to the 2 "white" high schools I went to when my family moved. As for your ghettos, I had many friends whose "hope" was achieved when they got out of the ghetto and started attending very good colleges on scholarships and grants. Your shop argument is played out and very enviromental, who is watched all depends on the area and the main ethnicity. Your odd-ones-out comment is also wrong, look up the population info for various cities (Cleveland, Oakland, Jacksonville, Columbus, Cincinatti, Philladelphia, Pittsburgh, San Fransico, Tampa, Miami) the odd-ones-out varies from place to place. And as I said, I attended Cleveland schools for about 10 years and to be honest I didn't really feel out of place. My friends accepted me for who I was, as I did them.
Rethink, I never beat anyone nor did I use racial slurs. I assume you are talking about the rich white man giving something up, because I never took anything, and how about the rich black men? I know of many rich black men who are just as guilty of being greedy. I hate to play this card, but how about Lebron James. He just had a mansion built, with a barbershop, bowling alley, and other ridiculas things. BET plays "movies about life because what we see everyday isnt acceptable to you", ever wonder what is creating the stereotypes or how those movies affect the young impressionable children. Last time I turned on MTV it played rap, the arguement isn't about the channels content, it's the name, so that throws CMT out of the window. The 4th of July is a holiday for Americans. Ask our troops, white or black, if they reconize the 4th as an American holiday or a "white" holiday. Most if not all will say American. (Even so, it's still just a day compared to a month.) I needed help in my life along with many friends of all colors. Just because I am white does not mean a free ride to college or a good career.
